Remote Mining Site Power & Infrastructure Installation – Marvel Loch WA

Summary
Astra Electrical & Air delivered a complete power distribution installation for a new remote mining site facility, providing reliable electrical infrastructure to support site operations. The project was completed on schedule and delivered within the client’s allocated budget.

Project Overview
This project involved supplying and installing submains to multiple crib facilities and workshops powered by a 110kVA generator system. Works included installation of cable tray systems, underground and aerial cabling, conduit, circuit protection, and full testing and commissioning of the new electrical infrastructure.

As part of the scope, the workshop subboard was upgraded from single-phase to three-phase to accommodate new plant equipment, including a three-phase air compressor. Additional earthing improvements and compliant protection devices were installed to ensure the system met operational and safety requirements for the site.

Challenges
Operating in a remote mining environment required durable installation methods and careful planning to ensure reliability and future scalability. The system was designed with provisions for expansion, allowing additional facilities to be connected without major rework.

Outcome
Astra Electrical & Air delivered a robust and compliant electrical distribution system capable of supporting current site operations and future growth. The installation was completed safely, on schedule, and within the project budget, providing the client with a cost-effective and reliable power solution.

Remote Camp Power Distribution & Commissioning – WA Resources Sector

Summary
Astra Electrical & Air delivered complete temporary power distribution and commissioning for a remote accommodation camp, supporting operational readiness and safe living conditions for site personnel.

Project Overview

This project involved establishing a generator-powered electrical distribution system to service multiple accommodation caravans and support facilities at a remote resource site. Works included installation of a three-phase supply from a 60kVA generator to the site switchboard, distribution of power to five accommodation blocks, a kitchen block, and an ablution block.

Infrastructure installation included ladder tray systems, catenary cable supports, sub-circuit wiring, compliant protection devices, and final site testing and commissioning. All electrical systems were installed to withstand harsh remote conditions while ensuring safe and reliable operation for personnel on site.

Challenges

The project required careful load management to operate within generator capacity while maintaining reliable supply across multiple buildings. During works, the kitchen block location was revised, requiring a variation to reroute power and install a polyphase energy meter for monitoring and compliance. Astra also responded to an emergency power loss callout, restoring operations quickly and minimising disruption to camp services.
